Thrifty Gas Savings

Gas Savings Made Simple. Save on Gas One Gallon At A Time

I remember times when gas used to be 0.80 cents/ Gallon. That was 1999. When a gallon of gas touched $1, it was talk of town. Fast forward 2022 some areas in California have hit $7/gallon. While inflation is at its peak, the gas prices in recent days have eased off a bit, yet they are at historic highs. For a average family of 4 which drives about 800 miles per month the is a sizable Chunk of family budget that goes towards gas expenses

I am going to outline 3 ways you can mitigate some of the high costs of Gas . While you might initially think just saving a few cents per gallon may not be the silver bullet you were hoping for, every gallon adds up. Just saving 5 cents per gallon over a year for a family of 4 can result in savings of $800-$1100 straight into your pockets.

Gas Station Savings

Each of the gas station chains offer a free membership where they offer 5-10 cents per gallon off. Plus in addition some of the gas memberships offer points in addition to the 5-10 cents discount per gallon. These points quickly add up and you can redeem these for more Gas discounts or merchandise at the gas station

Marathon and Arco stations : They have a free membership program where you can get 10 a Gallon off for the first 4 visits and then 5 cents per gallon every single time you fill gas. In addition for every gallon of gas that you fill you get 12 points. These points rack up so quickly, which can be redeemed for in store products or better yet to get even more discounts when you fill gas next. Hence when you add up everything you are getting more than 10 cents / gallon off

Exon & Mobil Gas stations: If you have a Exxon or Mobil station nearby or prefer their station they have a free membership program that gives you points worth 3 cents/gallon of gas. So for every average refill of 15 gallons you will get 45 cents worth points on your rewards program. Ask these rewards points can be racked up to redeem for free fuel or buying products in convenience stores

BP Gas stations: BP Gas stations have a 5 cents / gallon instant savings program. Registration for this program is free and you keep saving 5 cents per gallon, that's an average of 75 cents for every 15 gallon refill, one a year it can result in hundreds of dollars of savings. The only catch with this program is you have to spend a minimum hundred dollars per month to keep getting this benefit. Given the gas prices though this may not be as difficult to achieve for a average family

Chevron Texaco rewards program: If you have a Texaco or chevron Gas station nearby, they have their own program that is currently offering 1000 points just for free enrollment. You get 5 points per gallon of refill when you fill at their gas stations. Plus on your first two refills you will get an additional 1000 points that’s in addition to the previous 1000 that they gave for registration.. These points suddenly add up fast and you could be on your way to saving a substantial amount.

In addition to creating these free membership accounts that save you minimum 5 cents a gallon depending upon the membership program you have chosen, you can also save by paying for the gas with a cash back credit card. Please see our section on getting the best cash back cards. For every dollar you spend at these strains you can get from 1 - 2% cash back from these cards. But please ensure that you are paying the card payment in full to get these benefits, else the card companies will charge you 10+ interest rate which will negate all the benefits. These card savings work in most of Continental USA barring a few states like California where they charge extra for transacting using cards over paying cash. But if you are Someone that likes the Hassle free process of using cards, then might as well get the benefit from it
